Facial Recognition using the Combination of Significant non uniform Local Binary Pattern

Abstract:
Efficient face recognition is one of the long standing problems of computer vision. Recently, LBP have proven to be an effective descriptor for object recognition in general and face recognition. This paper presents an efficient algorithm for face recognition by deriving a new set of stable transitions on local binary pattern (LBP) for selecting significant Non-uniform LBP’s (SNULBP). The proposed SNULBP’s are stable, because it considered the transitions from two or more consecutive zeros to two or more consecutive ones. The proposed Significant NULBP (SNULBP) along with Uniform LBP (ULBP) features improved facial texture recognition rate. The performance of the proposed scheme is validated using complex facial datasets, namely Yale, Indian and AT&T ORL with various facial expressions.
